Sourcegraph Cody

Sourcegraph Cody is an enterprise AI coding assistant built on top of Sourcegraph's code intelligence platform — trusted by over 1 million engineers at companies like Databricks, Plaid, Uber, Lyft, Reddit, GE, and Dropbox. Launched in 2023, Cody distinguishes itself through a unique multi-repository context engine: rather than relying on just the open file or local workspace, it uses Sourcegraph's Search API to retrieve relevant code, symbols, APIs, and usage patterns from across entire enterprise codebases spanning 10 or more remote repositories simultaneously.

Cody features agentic chat (autonomous context gathering and code generation), auto-edit (real-time inline suggestions driven by cursor movement tracking), inline edit commands, customizable team prompts, autocomplete, debugging assistance, and unit test generation. It runs across VS Code, all JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio (experimental), Neovim, a CLI, and the Sourcegraph web UI. Enterprise admins select from Claude, GPT/o-series, or Gemini models — no single-vendor lock-in.

In July 2025, Sourcegraph discontinued Cody Free and Cody Pro to focus entirely on enterprise. The Enterprise plan (~$59/user/month annually) includes SOC 2 Type II, SAML SSO, RBAC, audit logs, no-training guarantees, and self-hosted or BYO cloud deployment. Sourcegraph was founded in 2013 by Quinn Slack and Beyang Liu and has raised $245M, including a $125M Series D at a $2.6B valuation led by Andreessen Horowitz.

Sourcegraph Cody previously offered three tiers: Cody Free (unlimited autocomplete, 200 chat messages/month), Cody Pro ($9\u2013$19/user/month), and Cody Enterprise. On July 23, 2025, Sourcegraph permanently discontinued the Free and Pro plans, consolidating Cody as an enterprise-only product.

Cody Enterprise is the sole remaining plan, reported at approximately $59/user/month on an annual contract. Some bundled Sourcegraph platform packages start around $16,000/year with included AI-feature credits. All pricing is negotiated directly with Sourcegraph's sales team and varies by organization size, deployment model, and contract length.

Enterprise includes admin-selectable LLMs (Claude, GPT, Gemini), SOC 2 Type II compliance, SAML SSO, RBAC, audit logs, full Sourcegraph platform integration (Code Search, Batch Changes, Code Insights), self-hosted or BYO cloud deployment for air-gapped environments, and guaranteed no training on customer code. Individual developers can use Sourcegraph's separate Amp product (currently free) as an alternative.
