Founded in Oakland, California in 2020 by Dominique Yahyavi and Prasanth Veerina, Pixelcut started as a background removal tool and has grown into a full creative workspace spanning image editing, video generation, and AI-driven product photography, now used by more than 70 million sellers, creators, and businesses in 150+ countries. The company briefly rebranded to "Pixa" in early 2026 before reverting to operating under the Pixelcut name and pixelcut.ai domain.

Its proprietary models handle everyday edits: instant background removal for both images and video, upscaling up to 16x resolution, generative expand and retouch, and AI Shadows, all processable in batches of up to 10,000 images at once. On top of that, Pixelcut layers a Creative Agent that plans and runs multi-step edits from a plain-language prompt, plus access to leading third-party generation models like Nano Banana Pro, Sora 2, Flux, and Imagen for text-to-image and text-to-video output. Product Showcase turns a single product shot into studio-grade imagery, AI Ads and Personas generate talking UGC-style video creators with consistent character identity across shots, and a Try-On API lets shoppers see clothing on a model from one photo.

Pixelcut serves everyone from solo Etsy and Shopify sellers editing a handful of listings to marketing teams at brands like Adidas, Airbnb, and Sephora producing campaign volume. It's available on web, iOS, and Android, plus a REST API and an MCP server for Claude, so developers and AI agents can call background removal, image generation, upscaling, and asset-library search directly inside a conversation or automated pipeline.

The platform is freemium: a free tier covers limited background removal and upscaling with watermark-free exports, while Pro ($10/month) and Business ($30/month) plans add unlimited core tools, monthly AI credits for generative models, larger teams, and a commercial license. API access is billed separately on a flat per-credit rate starting at $10 for 1,000 credits, with custom volume pricing for enterprise usage above 1 million credits a month.
