About Linkly AI

Linkly AI is a local-first, AI-agent-native document search engine that turns your computer into a private, searchable knowledge base that any AI agent can query. Built by solo developer @BlueeonY and launched in March 2026, Linkly AI installs a lightweight (~20MB) desktop app on macOS, Windows, or Linux that automatically indexes everything on your computer — PDFs, Word documents, Markdown notes, EPUBs, PowerPoints, images (with OCR), audio, and video — and exposes it to AI agents through a local MCP server and CLI. No files ever leave your machine.

The core workflow is simple: add a local folder, and Linkly AI indexes it automatically in as fast as 5 minutes. From that point, AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, n8n, Dify, and 15+ others can search, compare, read, and cite your documents in real time via the MCP server. Linkly AI builds a structural outline for every document so agents progressively disclose relevant sections rather than reading large files blindly. A local multilingual model powers cross-language semantic search across hundreds of languages with no cloud dependency. For cloud AI apps, the Pro plan's MCP Tunnel creates a secure connection to your local knowledge base without uploading files. A shareable library feature lets you organize and publish curated collections that others can connect their agents to via a single link.

Linkly AI is positioned at the intersection of personal knowledge management and agentic AI — bridging tools like Notion, Obsidian, and Mem with the agent-first workflows of Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. The free plan covers all local features indefinitely. The Pro Early Bird plan is $29/year ($66/year regular), adding frontier AI model access, the MCP Tunnel, and higher cloud library quotas. A 7-day full refund policy applies to all Pro subscriptions.

Key Features

  • Local MCP server — provides AI agents with search, compare, read, and outline tools so Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and 15+ other agents can query your local files in real time
  • Universal file format support — automatically indexes PDF, DOCX, Markdown, TXT, HTML, EPUB, PPTX, images (OCR for PNG/JPG/BMP/WEBP), and audio/video (MP3, WAV, MP4, MOV)
  • MCP Tunnel (Pro) — securely exposes your local knowledge base to cloud-based AI apps like Claude.ai and ChatGPT without uploading your files anywhere
  • Knowledge Libraries — organize indexed content into shareable libraries; share via a single link so teammates or followers can connect their AI agents directly to your library
  • Outline Index — builds a structural outline for every document so AI agents progressively disclose relevant sections instead of reading entire large files blindly
  • Cross-language semantic search — powered by a local multilingual model, enabling semantic search across hundreds of languages without sending data to the cloud
  • Browser extension — save any web page as clean Markdown in one click to add it to your local knowledge base automatically
  • CLI and Agent Skills — search your documents from the terminal, or install official Skills packages for Claude Code and Codex with a single npx command

Pros

  • Genuinely privacy-first — files never leave your computer; only text snippets are sent to agents, and the MCP Tunnel keeps cloud access local-anchored
  • Free plan covers all core local features with no credit card and no time limit — one of the most generous free tiers in the personal knowledge management space
  • Integrates with 15+ major AI agents out of the box — Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, Windsurf, Copilot, Gemini CLI, n8n, Dify, and more via MCP or CLI
  • OCR for images and transcription for audio/video — makes lecture recordings, whiteboard photos, and meeting videos fully searchable alongside text documents
  • Lightweight at ~20MB and sub-0.5 second query response times — runs quietly in the background without impacting system performance
  • Shareable Knowledge Libraries enable team and community knowledge sharing — unique feature that extends private use into collaborative AI-ready knowledge networks

Cons

  • Requires installing a desktop app — no fully web-based option; the desktop app is the core local indexing engine everything else connects to
  • Very early stage — launched March 2026, solo founder (@BlueeonY), small community so far
  • Pro plan cloud features (audio/video transcription, high-precision cloud parsing) are still marked Coming Soon
  • Free plan limits use of frontier AI models and cloud library quota — heavy users need the Pro plan
  • No native Windows ARM or mobile app currently — desktop support is macOS Apple Silicon/Intel, Windows x64, and Linux AppImage
  • No team billing plan yet — Team plan is listed as coming soon on the pricing page

Frequently Asked Questions

Linkly AI is a local-first document search engine built for AI agents. It installs a lightweight desktop app (~20MB) on your computer that automatically indexes all your files — PDFs, Word docs, Markdown notes, EPUBs, images (OCR), audio, video, PPTX, HTML, and more. AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, ChatGPT, and GitHub Copilot can then search, read, compare, and cite your documents through Linkly's MCP server or CLI — without any of your files leaving your computer.

Yes. Linkly AI has a permanently free plan with all local features, offline use, full-text search, semantic search, outline indexing, MCP and CLI access, and integration with mainstream AI agents. The Pro plan at $29/year (Early Bird, regular $66/year) adds access to frontier AI models, the MCP Tunnel for cloud-based AI app access, and higher cloud library quotas. A 7-day full refund policy applies.

Linkly AI's files never leave your machine. The desktop app indexes and stores everything locally. When an AI agent queries your documents through MCP or CLI, only the relevant text snippets are sent to the agent — never your original files. For cloud AI apps like ChatGPT or Claude.ai, the MCP Tunnel creates a secure tunnel so the cloud app can reach your local knowledge base, but your files still stay on your computer.

Linkly AI supports PDF, DOCX, Markdown, TXT, HTML, EPUB, PPTX, PNG, JPG, BMP, WEBP (OCR for images), MP3, WAV, MP4, MOV (audio and video transcription), and more. Adding a local folder triggers automatic indexing. Updates to files in watched folders are picked up continuously.

Linkly AI works with Claude Code, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, n8n, Dify, Raycast AI, LM Studio, Cherry Studio, and more. Integration is via the local MCP server, the CLI, or official Agent Skills packages. For Claude Code and Codex, a single setup command handles the full integration automatically.
