Bolt.new is an AI-powered full-stack app builder by StackBlitz that lets anyone build, preview, and deploy complete web applications from a plain-language prompt — entirely inside the browser. Launched on October 3, 2024 by CEO Eric Simons with a single tweet, it became one of the fastest-growing software products in history: $4M ARR in its first 30 days, $20M ARR in 60 days, and $40M ARR within 5 months. By December 2025 it had over 7 million users globally, and by mid-2026 Bolt claimed 75% of the Fortune 500 use the platform.

The technical foundation is StackBlitz's proprietary WebContainers technology — the first runtime that executes Node.js natively in the browser without a remote server. This means Bolt needs no installation, no local dev environment, and no cloud sandbox. Users open bolt.new, type a prompt, and Bolt scaffolds a complete project, installs npm packages, builds, and serves a live app preview in the same browser tab. Bolt uses intelligent multi-model routing (selecting from Claude, GPT, and Gemini variants) to balance quality and cost per task, with a Standard agent for general dev and a Max agent (Pro-only) for complex workloads.

Bolt Cloud, launched in September 2025, added built-in databases, authentication, file storage, edge functions, SEO optimization, custom domain hosting, and analytics — eliminating the need for external providers. Bolt.new uses a token-based Freemium model. The Free tier provides 1 million tokens per month (with a 300,000 token daily cap), unlimited databases, website hosting with up to 333K web requests/month, and supports both public and private projects. Bolt branding appears on Free-tier websites.

Pro costs $25/month (or less with annual billing) and includes no daily token limit, starting at 10M tokens/month, no Bolt branding, custom domain support, private site sharing, 100MB file uploads, up to 1M web requests, SEO boosting, expanded database capacity, choice of database provider, AI image editing, and unused token rollover for up to one additional month. The Teams plan is $30/user/month and adds centralized billing, team-level access management, granular admin controls, design system knowledge with per-package prompts, and private NPM registry support.

Enterprise pricing is custom and includes everything in Pro plus SSO (Okta, Azure AD, SAML), SOC 2 Type II compliance, BYOK deployment on AWS or Azure, HIPAA/FedRAMP-ready infrastructure, a dedicated customer success manager, private Slack support channel, custom SLAs, hands-on onboarding, and unlimited token allocations without overage surprises.
