Gemini Code Assist is Google's enterprise AI coding assistant, part of the Gemini for Google Cloud portfolio, providing AI-powered assistance across the entire software development lifecycle. Launched in 2024 and powered by Google's Gemini models, it offers code completions, inline generation, natural language chat, agent mode, smart actions, and the Gemini CLI terminal agent across VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Cloud Shell Editor, Cloud Workstations, and Android Studio. Code Customization (Enterprise) lets organizations index private GitHub and GitLab repositories for tailored, codebase-aware suggestions aligned with internal APIs and conventions.

In 2026, Gemini Code Assist gained access to Gemini 3 — Google's most intelligent model with a 1 million token context window — available in the Preview release channel for Standard and Enterprise subscribers. Agent mode (also in Preview) pairs developers with AI agents capable of multi-file edits, full project context, and MCP integrations with Human-in-the-Loop oversight. The platform extends beyond the IDE into the full Google Cloud ecosystem: Gemini in Firebase, BigQuery data insights, Apigee API development with enterprise context, Application Integration workflow automation, and Gemini Cloud Assist for infrastructure design and incident investigation.

Gemini Code Assist holds the most comprehensive enterprise certifications of any AI coding assistant: SOC 1/2/3, ISO/IEC 27001, 27017, 27018, and 27701. Google's data governance policy guarantees no customer code is used to train shared models. An IP indemnification policy protects Enterprise licensed users from copyright infringement concerns. On June 18, 2026, Google discontinued the free individual tier (Gemini Code Assist for individuals) and redirected individual users to Antigravity and Antigravity CLI. The Standard ($19/user/month annual) and Enterprise ($45/user/month annual) plans remain available for teams via Google Cloud.

Gemini Code Assist is available in two editions for teams and businesses, priced per user per month.

Standard costs $22.80/user/month (monthly) or $19/user/month (annual commitment). It includes AI code completions, inline code generation, natural language chat in IDEs, smart actions, local codebase awareness, Gemini CLI terminal access, Gemini in Firebase, usage metrics dashboard, and Gemini Cloud Assist (Application Design Center, Investigations). It is available in VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Cloud Shell Editor, Cloud Workstations, and Android Studio.

Enterprise costs $54/user/month (monthly) or $45/user/month (annual commitment). It adds Code Customization (index private GitHub/GitLab repos for tailored suggestions), Gemini in BigQuery, Gemini in Apigee, Application Integration, and premium support. Both plans include enterprise security with VPC Service Controls, Private Google Access, granular IAM, and Google's data governance policy (no model training on customer data). SOC 1/2/3, ISO 27001/27017/27018/27701 certified, with IP indemnification.

Note: The free individual tier (Gemini Code Assist for individuals, Google AI Pro, Google AI Ultra) was discontinued on June 18, 2026. Individual users are directed to migrate to Antigravity and Antigravity CLI.
