Pricing
FreemiumAmp offers three pricing tiers. The free ad-supported tier includes Amp Tab autocomplete, core agent access with no hard token caps, thread sharing, and the Librarian codebase sub-agent. Sponsored suggestions appear in non-code contexts (dashboard, docs lookups). No credit card required.
Smart Mode at $20/month removes ads, opts out of data sharing and model training, unlocks Oracle Mode at full reasoning depth, and provides priority model routing during peak demand. As of August 2026, Smart Mode also allows routing usage through a linked ChatGPT or X Premium+ subscription at no extra per-token cost.
A $200/month tier covers higher-volume individual usage. For teams, Amp offers workspace management with centralized billing, admin controls, shared threads and workflows, and enterprise-grade security. Enterprise pricing is custom and adds SOC 2 compliance, zero data retention, and dedicated support.
FreeCline itself is free and open source — there are no seat fees or subscriptions for the core agent. You pay AI inference costs directly to your chosen LLM provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, etc.) with a full per-request cost breakdown shown in the UI. Cline shows every token used and every dollar spent transparently.
ClinePass ($9.99/month) is an optional managed billing subscription that provides 2–5x more usage on popular open coding models compared to standard API rates, with one-click sign-in and no need to manage API keys yourself. It is not required — BYOK (bring your own key) is always available at zero markup.
Enterprise pricing is custom and adds JetBrains extension, SSO/OIDC/SCIM, SLA, centralized billing, RBAC, team management dashboard, authentication logs, limit inference providers, dedicated support, VPC deployments, OpenTelemetry, and advanced config management. Summary
Multi-model AI coding agent — free tier, no token caps, Librarian codebase search
Open-source AI coding agent — any model, your keys, full control
Amp Pros & Cons
Pros
- Ad-supported free tier is the only genuinely unlimited free tier among major coding agents — no hard token caps, no daily limits
- Multi-model routing across Claude, GPT, and other frontier models per task — not locked to a single AI provider
- The Librarian uniquely enables live search across all public GitHub and private repos without loading files manually
- Sourcegraph's code intelligence infrastructure gives Amp deeper codebase context than most terminal agents
- Available in CLI plus every major editor (VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, JetBrains, Zed, Neovim) — true editor-agnostic flexibility
- 40,000+ teams adopted within the first months of 2026 — rapid validation of product-market fit after spin-out
Cons
- Ad-supported free tier means sponsored suggestions appear in non-code contexts like the dashboard and docs lookups
- No open-source code — closed-source commercial product unlike Cline, Goose, or OpenHands
- Smart Mode (no data sharing) requires a paid subscription — free tier users' interactions inform Amp's training pipeline
- As of August 2026 Amp subscriptions are $20 and $200/month — pricing is now similar to Claude Code and Cursor, eliminating its former pay-as-you-go-only advantage
- CLI-first design means limited visual IDE experience compared to Cursor or Windsurf — no GUI file explorer or diff viewer built in
- Spun out from Sourcegraph in December 2025 — organizational independence is new and long-term stability is still being established
Cline Pros & Cons
Pros
- Completely free and open source (Apache 2.0) — no seat fees, no subscriptions, no proprietary lock-in ever
- 67K+ GitHub stars and 8M+ developers — largest open-source coding agent community by any measure
- Full cost transparency at zero markup — the only major coding agent that shows exactly what you pay per request with no hidden pricing
- Model-agnostic with 12+ provider integrations — switch any time without changing workflow or losing your setup
- Plan/Act mode gives full human-in-the-loop control — approve every action or flip to autopilot when confidence is high
- Trusted by engineers at Salesforce, Oracle, Amazon, Microsoft, eBay, Visa, IBM, and LG
Cons
- BYOK means you manage your own LLM API keys and billing — can be confusing for non-technical users used to flat subscriptions
- No built-in inline autocomplete (Tab completions) — Cline is an agent, not a code-completion tool like Copilot or Tabnine
- JetBrains support is still Early Access — not as polished as the VS Code extension
- Some engineers joining OpenAI's Codex team in January 2026 raised community concerns about long-term momentum (Cline confirmed no acquisition and remains independent)
- Enterprise features (SSO, RBAC, JetBrains, SLA) require a custom sales contract — no self-serve team plan available
